Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran, born March 10, 1949 is an American businesswoman and investor. She is also a lecturer as a consultant, columnist syndicated, speaker, author, and TV show host. The Corcoran Group, an NYC real estate brokerage was established by Corcoran. NRT bought it in 2001 for $66 million. Corcoran then left the business. Corcoran was one of the first Shark Tank investors. She has appeared in every season of ABC's Shark Tank. As of February 2020 she had signed 53 deals. The most significant of these was a purchase of $350,000 in Coverplay at 40%. Corcoran was the second of 10 kids born to an Irish Catholic couple of working class in Edgewater, New Jersey. Florence, her mother was an errand-taker. Her father, Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was a bouncing between jobs throughout Corcoran's childhood. Her family sometimes relied on free food delivery from a nearby supermarket. Corcoran remembers her father, one who would drink excessively, and treated her mother with disrespect and condescendingly, particularly after he'd consumed some drinks. Corcoran struggled in school, and was later told that she was dyslexic. Corcoran was a student at a Catholic elementary school in her community and started high school in St. Cecilia High School, Englewood. Corcoran was proficient in several courses during her freshman year. She transferred to Leonia High School and graduated with a grade of D.
